Travel Shanghai Info – Your Info-guide for All Things Shanghai
Travel Shanghai Info Welcomes YOU to Shanghai!
Ok for start, let me introduce myself – being the sole webmaster and Editor.
I live and work in Shanghai for the past few years and Shanghai has been good to me. I hail from Kuala Lumpur (the capital city of Malaysia), and I do see many similarities between Shanghai and my hometown.
This may explain why I was able to adapt well to this modern and cosmopolitan city of Shanghai.
I am currently working in Shanghai as a Business Consultant /Adjunct Professor, who is also in the process of developing an E-commerce startup (with a bunch of mates all over the world VIRTUALLY) in Shanghai. More of that at a later stage.
I am also a young (30+), single and available and do thrive on having as much fun as possible - making friends (girls!), money and exchanging ideas in this fast-paced city of Shanghai!
To ensure that Travel Shanghai Info stays as a hot virtual property, I will write furiously about my exciting & personal adventures and provide as much information on the nooks and cranny about Shanghai City - what the city has to offer to tourists and those who are living and doing business here.
However, being the only guy writing for Travel Shanghai Info (in addition to kind contributions from friends and the Net), please be patient if you do not see new stuff daily.
Before I go on, I would like to put in writing, my appreciation to one of my top mates in China – Mr. X of Beijing-China-Guide.com, who has encouraged me to start Travel Shanghai Info website. Without him, you’ll not be reading this site. Hi-five, X!
Though Singapore and Malaysia may be rivals especially in sports like football, both of us get along very well. Furthermore, Mr. X is also a partner in my new E-commerce Startup, as mentioned earlier.
(Note: Please visit Beijing-China-Guide.com only after you have exhausted all the materials in my Travel Shanghai Info website. He he! Anyway, it’s a fantastic site on Beijing and I do contribute articles when I am asked to offer my two cent’s worth about visiting Beijing hotspots)
So, what’s Shanghai in general?

Today Shanghai is regarded by all as China's most cosmopolitan city and is also regarded as the economic/financial hub of mainland China. The city is more modern than the rest of China and she is constantly improving its modern facilities to cater to Western interests due to the heavy influx of foreign tourists and businesspeople.
The foreign visitors will be able to witness famous landmarks such as the Pearl Tower, the world's tallest hotel and the world's longest arch bridge. Besides the Tower, there are the also the famous Jinmao Mansion and Pudong International Airport. One must also visit the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theatre and the Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Center.
Shanghai has been called the "Paris of the East" and the "Queen of the Orient." Since 1840’s, Shanghai has already opened its door to foreigners for trade. And with foreign trade and exchange of ideas, this has contributed much to Shanghai's unique character, architecture, fashion and food.
More importantly, for shopping addicts, they will satisfy their craving and nod their head in approval of Shanghai’s reputation as the Shoppers’ Paradise of China!
Most visitors to Shanghai and who have visited other cities of Mainland China will probably tell you that Shanghai is a distinctive Chinese City. What you can see and buy in Shanghai may not be available in other Chinese Cities. Shanghai has most of the foreign imports as the city is more affluent than the rest.
This is probably why most local Shanghainess perceive the rest of Mainland China as the “rural farmlands“ ;and insult people from other parts of China as “country hillbillies”!
And this is why most Chinese do not like the “arrogant” Shanghainess due to such prejudice and name-calling! I will write more of this in the near future.
In addition to being the most modern and cosmopolitan (and “most arrogant”?) city in China, Shanghai has also the distinction of hosting the World Trade Expo in 2010.
The World Trade Expo will no doubt attract more foreign tourists and impress them with the city's vastness, the pace of development, the population density and the chaos and energy of the city.
And I hope I will still be in Shanghai to write about the Expo events in this website. Here’re some of the things I’ll be writing about in Travel Shanghai Info.
Of course, I will add more every week and even get other friendly contributions from my friends in Shanghai/ China and the Net.
So, please keep yourself updated to the events of Shanghai by book-marking this site - Travel Shanghai Info
