Shanghai Medical Tips - What You Can Expect & Do
Shanghai Medical Tips – Shanghai is a cosmopolitan and modern city. Thus, things are easily available compared to other parts of China. Medical care is one of them. Having been to smaller cities like Changchun and Harbin, it is considered a breeze to seek medical help and doctors who can speak decent English. However, compared to Malaysia or the West, you still need to dig around before you find good medical help in English. Here are some Shanghai Medical Tips if you don’t feel well in Shanghai: I always keep a small first aid kit, repair cold, headache tablets at least. Usually, I get them when I return home to Malaysia. However, for all of you now there’s no need to. Why? There are WATSONS (a large chain of pharmacies) all over the city and most of the remedies, pills, etc., which you may need should be available. Besides Watsons (which I trust more than any shops here), there is a large network of pharmacies – I call it the Green Cross pharmacies. These pharmacies will always be OPEN 24 hr a day in the city you are in. Just like 7-Eleven stores- always close but never close. However, please be prepared to speak some Chinese or end up with the wrong medicine. I usually ask my friend to write the Chinese name of the medicine for me for safety reason. Usually, if you buy package type of medication, the packaging will be written in Chinese on one side, English on the other. So, please take a good look before purchasing it. I have to add that some of the English translation will make you laugh really hard – and sometimes, laughter is the best medicine! However, if you are really suffering from some major pains/ illness and you need professional help, go see a doctor. And ifyou really need an English-speaking doctor to calm your nerves, visit the clinic available in good hotels in the city districts. You will pay more but at least, you know you are in better hands!
