Shanghai Places to Visit –There’s More to Shanghai than Just Shopping

Shanghai Places To Visit – Shanghai is an ultra modern city. And if you are coming from big cities like New York, Tokyo or Singapore, Shanghai looks similar.

With skyscrapers and huge shopping malls with all the international brands that you care for, it seems like just another mega city.

However, if you dig deeper and explore the nooks and cranny of Shanghai, you will realize that there are many places to visit that you can truly enjoy a unique experience that only Shanghai can offer.

Let me introduce to you a few places that I was brought around when I first visited Shanghai a few years back.

And I will update more interesting places to visit in the very near future, either through my own experiences or my friends/ contributors to the website.

Places of Attractions in Shanghai

Shanghai Places to Visit 1 - Shanghai Museum

The Shanghai Museum is a great place of interest for art, history and culture buffs. There are so many things to learn from these visits especially the history of Chinese Art & Crafts.

Within the museum, there is a vast collection of ancient Chinese fine art and valuable relics and you can have a guide who will tell you more information regarding the pieces.

Among its collected works are paintings, pottery, bronzes, calligraphies, sculptures and jewelries.

Thus, if you really want to learn more about the Chinese art, Shanghai Museum must be at the top of your list of Shanghai’s best places to visit!

Shanghai Places to Visit 2 – The Bund

The Bund is located on the eastern banks of the River Huangpu. And surrounding the Bund, there are many tall buildings and landmarks of Shanghai.

Some say that the Bund is the hub of Shanghai’s old and new.

For architecture students and lovers, these buildings around the Bund are such architectural wonders of nineteen, twenties, thirties and forties.

It’s just amazing how the old and new blend so well in the area and it always leaves me spell-bound!

On the streets of Bund, there are activities most of the time. Especially during the weekends, you will probably come across many buskers singing entertaining passers- by.

Give them a dollar or two if you are entertained!

In the night, the bright lights add to the beauty and splendor of the place. My best night at the Bund was with my then-girlfriend, during the eve of Christmas in the year 2006.

It’s just an amazing sight!

Shanghai Places to Visit 3 - Oriental Pearl TV Tower

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is468 meters in height. It stands tall next to the Huangpu River.

The structure is so gigantic that you can see it from a great distance. And that’s why it’s a must-see attraction for visitors in Shanghai.

The Oriental TV tower is reputed to be one of the tallest landmarks in the entire Asia and currently the third in the whole world.

So, when in Shanghai, go take a photo with the Oriental Pearl TV Tower as the backdrop.
